Fat Stacks
So my problem with jobs, specifically legal jobs, is that there is currently little to no RP involved in most of them. With the illegal jobs you have robbery's which involve setting up, interactions with the police etc, plenty of opportunities for RP. With weed/meth there is a higher rate of crime and the possibility of running into police, not a huge amount of RP, but there is some. In contrast, you have jobs like gold, peaches, mechanic, trucking and delivery's with involve pretty much no RP. In fact there is only only three jobs I can think of which involve RP and that is the two white-listed jobs and taxi driver. For an RP server, I don't think that this is very good. How could this be fixed? Well first of all I feel like jobs should designed with RP in mind. For example, a quick fix would be instead of delivery missions being to random locals, players can call the delivery drivers and they will come to you, so you would have like UberEATS and on-call taco trucks etc. However I think one of the most effective ways to solve this problem is the introduction of businesses. Now, I have no idea what the teams "vision" is for businesses however my opinion is that the role of businesses should be to create jobs that are more RP orientated. So, let me suggest how I would implement businesses to do that. Basically my philosophy is that businesses should be a vehicle to open up more aspects of the jobs to the players. So for example with gold you should be able to invest(buy) a gold refinery. You can then invest more money into the business to "upgrade" the gold refinery. These upgrades could be upgrades which give you a better yield(you get more processed gold) or could be upgrades in speed. This will incentivize players to choose the player owned businesses rather than the static ones and obviously business owners will charge for players to use their facility's. Some details on how the mechanics would work: You go down to the business center and there a screen, like the garage showing different types of businesses you can buy Once you have purchased if will ask you to set a location, the location must be a certain distance from both the seller and the farm. You drive to the desired location and press a button to set. This location is now on your map. In order for business not to be OP, if you own a business e.g. gold, you cannot farm or sell gold anymore, in addition only the owner of the business can use the refinery. You go to the location where there is a circle which you enter and you get a menu whereby you can either process or select upgrades. Barrier to entry will be very high to purchase a business and upgrades Static processors would still exist And that is just a basic framework on how it would work. There's plenty of ways you could build on it in the future if you wanted to, like adapt it to non-farming jobs such as trucking, different upgrades like you could buy a "employee" upgrade, maybe police can seize businesses that are illegal(either illegal as is weed or money laundering), perhaps even something like player owned banks where people earn interest, idk. However I think on it's own this will make game play much more interesting, it means jobs are going to involve much more interaction with players, businesses will have to think about advertising, about how they can compete with other businesses. It will be really interesting for the illegal jobs such as weed. It also means if I have millions in the bank I'm not stuck picking peaches lol. From a development standpoint, I don't think what I outlined would be that big of a challenge, considering what already exists on the server. Biggest hurdle would probably figuring out the economics of everything. So yeah, that's the kind of thing I would like to see on the server to improve jobs. Also I have no idea how other servers have implemented businesses since I've only ever played badlands, anyone seen anything interesting?
Fat Stacks
Also another cool feature of that implementation is that it mixes up the economy. There is no "peaches pays best" or whatever, what pays best is constantly changing depending who's online, what upgrades they have and what kind of cut those businesses are taking. It means people should be more inclined to pick jobs which fit their character, rather than just whatever pays best.
