lords8n
Hi there! I joined the meeting yesterday and just caught the discussion on the possibility of stealing money from other players. I can't remember if it was said that this was definite or being considered, but I remember it being said it wouldn't be all at once, but in mini timed sums, of possibly $1000 or some number. So it's not a secret that I think this server hates EMS, though I mostly say this in jest. What with the change to hunting causing Murder Kitty calls to rise dramatically, causing EMS to have to shoot out to Stab City or Chiliad State Park multiple times in between all the other normal calls. My record thus far is 13 Murder Kitty calls in a two hour shift working alone. Yes, I felt like a ping pong ball. Then we have the Halloween Season zombies, aliens, and freddyjasonmyers attacks. Again, while i'm alone on duty trying to handle what is already almost impossible for a single unit at that time of day. NOW...consider this: I, as EMS, get a Life Alert call. Upon arrival there is a person down. One person is crouched over the patient with another one or two persons standing close by. I see no danger and approach. Weapons are quickly pulled on me and i'm told I cannot treat this patient until after they are robbed of all their money. And I cannot leave. And if I use my radio, or in any other way notify police, they will kill me. NOW i'm hands-up stuck in limbo with other calls coming in that I can't answer waiting for this robbery to play out. Can you convince me, please, that you don't hate EMS? Apart from EMS consider this: I work at Hayes Auto for a while this day and have accumulated a sufficient amount of money to where I feel I need to make a deposit. I go to the bank ever careful of the shadows and what there may lurk. I enter the bank, flex my third eye, and YES I successfully deposit...i'm safe. I turn to exit the bank and am met with a gun in my face. The person tells me they've seen me working at the mechanic shop all day...or all week...or all month, and demand that I withdraw all my money, which better not be less than 'X' amount of cash or they will kill me, because they assume I have it. The robber takes me to a remote location where the robber proceeds to methodically rob me of a significant amount of the cash that i've work hard to obtain. Is that really what we want on this server?
Timr
Neither of these thing are impossible now, the former currently would just include items being stolen instead of cash I donât remember ever having forced people to hunt mountain lions, so Iâm not sure how you equate people going down to them to means server staff hates EMS. Seems like a bit of a logic jump to me
Randy Jones
You can't just rob someone for the sake of robbing them that's against the server rules. You have to have a reason that makes sense in rp not that this guy has a lot of money on him probably lets rob him. I personally think its not a bad idea to be able to rob cash off of someone else, There are situations in rp where stealing someone's cash makes sense. I don't think the server hates EMS either. EMS are always heard when they have any concerns, suggestions, or feedback. I can't speak for everyone but I think that as whole the community appreciates the contribution and amazing rp that EMS provide other players. And that no one really hates EMS, and if they do then they can continue being miserable and hating a whitelisted faction on a RP server.  Edited November 1, 2021 by Randy Jones
Yama
It's tough, I feel like mugging for cash can be a thing and can be done smartly, and like everything new it needs to be tested and balanced. I haven't heard of anyone being forced to withdraw money at gunpoint, but I guess it isn't out of the question... Since most businesses are cash based, for balancing sake, I'd say the average legal civilian would need some better ways to protect their hard earned paychecks like credit cards or more direct deposit payment options. As for hating EMS... I think it needs to be said that EMS is NOT going to make it to every call (nor should we be expected to), especially when we are understaffed. I'm guilty of falling into that revive-bot mindset when things get hectic and the 911 calls start rolling in, so I'll cut my RP short and move on to the next revive and I feel bad for doing it. I don't think staff is intending to make EMS life harder, at the end of the day I'm entitled to enjoying my EMS RP as much as the patient that got involved in a shootout with the cops. I try not to think of it as more dangerous events and activities meaning more calls in the endless backlog, I view them as more potential interactions for my medic. I'd say it's more frustrating when our civilians sometimes struggle with that idea that EMS can't always be there. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon to be suddenly backed up with calls, then have bad attitude thrown in my face because someone had to flex their life-alert more than once. It's an extra special night when people come to Pillbox or walk up to me while I'm helping someone to heckle me for not showing up in time. Seems like a bit of a logic jump to me It's not about being forced. People gravitate to what makes the most money. Hence the increase in trucking recently as well. If you even can, pull the statistics on Murder Kitty attacks. I'm willing to bet it's increased a lot. The recent hunting change did force people to find the next best way to make money, and that just happened to be the most deadliest. The whole "hates EMS" thing is a joke. The three things mentioned, hunting changes, scary murders, and possibly stealing cash have increased, and have the potential to increase, pressure on EMS in some scenarios is all.  3 hours ago, Randy Jones said: You can't just rob someone for the sake of robbing them that's against the server rules. You know that's not going to stop it from happening, and yelling, "THAT'S AGAINST THE RULES MR. ROBBER," is not acceptable and arguably worse. Even if this particular "illegal" scenario is quickly recoverable, leaving the robbed without their money for as short a time as possible, the stalling EMS scenario is still a possibility. EDIT: Why would this be against server rules? If this is against server rules then every single one of the numerous accounts of people being robbed at the mines, at the juke growing location, at Legion Square car park, and in their own mechanic shop for a squeegee should then also be illegal? Robbery happens every day in this server. If this is illegal I need to know about it so I can be compensated, and the offenders deported, for such illegal debauchery!!!Revive Bots Assemble... I've thought about this revive bot thing a lot. Is it better to give 10 people shorter RP and give them all life than to give one person extended RP and let the other nine die, see the light, take a flight, etc...? I don't think the answer is clear. I believe different EMTs will give a different balance to that same question. For me personally, I want to revive everyone. And as i've said before, especially those that have no other hope for help except me when I am the only EMS on duty. That does not mean i'll shorten any RP because i've been told not to do that. I don't mind entering revive bot mode from time to time for the simple reason that reviving that one person that KNOWS if it were not for me getting to them they would have, without question, died, and receiving that very special gratitude that goes along with that scenario outweighs any extended medical RP I might perform. Maybe that's just me? Edited November 1, 2021 by lords8n
Yama
I wasn't saying you shouldn't pick everyone up, just that you shouldn't stress yourself out when you inevitably miss a call. How many times have you arrived on a scene where the patient has already been moved, have had Police transport a patient for you, or have someone show up after because they saw the light? It happens, right? Missing calls and getting the influx of calls all over the island is still something that really stresses me out, but I'm just not inclined to deny new and interesting RP mechanics and events, just because it means more injuries and a possible delay to Emergency Services. Also, I love you man, but please don't assume that you're the only EMS that cares... I'm really sorry if you feel that way, but that's hurtful on a personal level and just flat out incorrect. I also do solo EMS shifts, A LOT. It stresses me out to the maximum when I get buried in calls, and I will still respond to every single call, even if the call has been sitting in our queue for 59 minutes, just for that chance to help someone that's really clinging to life. I'm sure many of our civilians have had both the quick, revive-bot Jay and the involved surgery Jay. I try not to make my personality night and day, but there will undoubtedly be a difference in my RP involvement and demeanor based on how backed up I am. Nah I by no means think i'm the only one that cares. I was just saying that "maybe" i'm the only one that thinks in that very specific way. And I did say maybe. After all I don't directly know the thinking process of all medical staff. I don't particularly "stress" about much of this. It's all just thought processes that go through my head. Now, Phil, on the other hand, might stress over it a good bit because that's just the way he is with his natural love of all living things and his drive to preserve life. I'm just learning this RP stuff so I really have no clue wtf i'm doing.

"Being done smartly" is the issue here. I'll just start off by saying that I don't think flat out robbing people of their money is a good idea and should not be implemented to any extent. I wanted to listen in on the meeting yesterday (and was even there right before it started) but something came up requiring my attention. I do not know if this is a thing now or is planning to be one. In either event, it's not a good idea. Take a look at anything else going on right now in discussion throughout the boards and what's happening in the city. We have truckers doing insane speeds without a care in the world, people being robbed in legal venues let alone illegal ones (because they can be), and I've personally been held at gunpoint while doing postal work. (Albeit that incident was funny in hindsight, I can't say everyone else would share the same opinion). I have witnessed law enforcement do some incredibly unprofessional driving throughout the city (well beyond any acceptable level of RP / emergency) assuming they can simply because they're under code (clearing other cars due to speed, spinning out, driving on sidewalks, etc) I've seen some really questionable "allowed" behavior at business venues. . . . I say all that to say this. If you implement the ability for a person to be robbed of money under certain circumstances or otherwise handled "smartly" . . . how long before it's completely abused and taken advantage of? If you weren't sure if you were the only one that goes into revive-bot mode and focuses on helping everyone for that tiny bit of gratitude instead of a single extended medical RP, now you know the answer is absolutely "No, it's not just you!"Â Â Phil is a precious gem.
