Merr Khan
Seems like the problem doesn't lay with the developers/moderators but more with the players. Obviously i don't mean the kids that come in and kill everything that moves and laugh about before combat logging. I mean like your saying the regular ones who pull a gun for little to no reason. IRL if you pull a gun on someone who bumps your car, or any civil infraction like that, at the very least you will lose your license to carry after being arrested. As of now, every one knows if you do the crime you can do a little time or pay the fine, then get your gun back immediately. Until there is some sort of licensing for firearms (that can be suspended say after jail time) gets implemented I don't see any way to stop the needless violence that we are seeing.     edit: As far as the potential increase in vehicular manslaughter or VDM due to lack of weapon availability to convicted felons, there would have to a driving license too, that while suspended prevents the player from taking out a car. (limits them to bicycles only). That way if they are in a car it is either stolen or chargeable to owner for letting an un-licensed driver drive it.   Edited October 19, 2017 by Richard Power

I have said it in many posts before but once more I repeat it. If punishment is good enough, people will think it twice before puling major offenses. It's that simple, why we don't go crazy in RL and kill assholes, because the consequences are not worth it. Yet some might shoplift or similar since it's just something minor. Balance the punishments and that will balance the amount and type of crimes committed. Once again, this does not help when the Police are not around. We aren't turning this into a Hardcore server where a manslaughter charge brings a 3 hour jail sentence. There are plenty of servers that have done this in the past. Being too heavy on the ticket/jailing can really kill someones experience and prevent them from coming back. It also holds up a server slot when a player is in jail for an extended period of time. Down the road there may be some small adjustments to ticket prices and jail times but it doesn't help us today. It doesn't help when there is a cop across the map and there is an interaction occurring with which a player is going to use his gun for a petty reason. Doesnt address the primary issue of violence when cops arent around. But with possibly apprehending criminals at a later time there ia a concern of when a civilian has a "new life"
Tomas GarcÃa
@SneakyAzShiite I'm not a defender of big jail times. I'm not saying we need to go hardcore. I'm just pointing out that people care about money... and if doing a couple small infractions can get you the same outcome than going wild and blowing up half of the town ((Following the rules, of course)) then you will have most of the players that want to make some noise, blowing up half of the town. Given the ration players-cops, if you get a couple or more groups making chaos at the same time, it's impossible for cops to handle it. Since with processing times, by the time that cops catch the 2nd group, 1st will be out. The point of this topic is gun control, and I'm extending it to violence in general. @TiLLeR had a good point with deter it, not stop it. Cops don't need to be able to catch everyone, or jail for long. What matters is that criminal acts get the proper risk for such actions. Money matters more than time, if fines are readjusted and then forced, then people will think it twice. I might kill someone that is taking my turf or a long time enemie, but not random people, because what I can loose if I get caught, doesn't make it worth it.
