Car shop details / test drive

Recommended Posts

Hello!
I would really enjoy if there were more "details" about the cars in the shop, such as top speed, acceleration and stuff.
Or even better, a way to "test drive" the car before purchase.

Ive lost a big amount of cash for buying cars that turned out to be slow like a snail and then sold em back again.
So this would help me out alot and probably many other players aswell!

/cheers

A lot of cars will be slow as a snail here. If you're buying a cheap car, expect your money's worth. If you're buying an expensive car, make sure it's not a show car like the Super Diamond or something.
As for test drives, you can bet your ass 90% of people will react exactly like this

This is actually an idea that has been requested a few times, I personally would love to have something like that. Maybe have a dealership (one) somewhere with a big parking lot (like the one near the casino for instance) where if you spawn a car to test drive it, you only have it for a few minutes, and restrict the area you can drive it in like with the go-carts? Don't know if it's possible (probably a lot of work for the devs) but that would be awesome.

Kind of what I was thinking Lili. Maybe test drive for $5k and you get it for 5 minutes.

(If), this was ever a thing, As long as driving restrictions are available, don't think anyone should have to pay to test drive a vehicle. When you go to a dealership in R/L, you don't pay them to test vehicles. I've tested vehicles I couldn't afford in R/L, just because the option was there. But again, pointless unless driving restrictions was available.

It would just help keep abuse to a minimum. There are a lot of things people do in Badlands that they wouldn't do IRL. Also, what kind of restrictions are you talking about? Because, you know, they would have to match up to IRL, right?

i think he was talking about restricting the area where you can test a car. i may be wrong tho.

i would love to see this, but then i remember all the cars i bought and sold since August and how their performance was constantly changing, being adjusted to try to find an overall good balance. thanks @Osk !

My advice? Don't worry about speed, chose a car that fits your character.

Base on my "character" speed is very important.

I would love to have this added to the game because it's hard sometimes to know if a car is gonna be fast or no. I bought a car for 253K hoping for the best and it ended up with being pretty slow. Now that's a lot of money for me personally in game.

I would love the test drive more than the information about the car but the information also works rather than nothing

Possibly letting players actually review the cars would alleviate some of the issue. Every car ever has a maxed out 4 star review but you can't actually read them. It would be cool to have real reviews from people who've actually owned the vehicles so you may better know the potential of the vehicle.

The only cars that will go as fast as 160 mph+ are super cars. (up to 203 mph, I think) Have fun grinding 6-7 mill for all that RP content. I am looking forward to meeting this Saudi Arabian prince, or is it a Texas Oil tycoon, maybe President Trump?

Not really sure of too many types of people that can own such expensive and rare cars, but hey, it not like this is an RP server.........

Ok, but he doesn't want to pay $5k to test drive because it's not that way IRL. So why would you have a distance restriction, when you don't IRL?

In Real Life, you have someone from the Dealership go with you, and they give you a route and where to turn. To convert that to a game, area restriction would be comparable.

This is actually a better / great idea. To avoid having to do any crazy coding, maybe a new forum section for Vehicle Reviews? This could help with bringing more traffic to the site too.

This is not the case in my area. I think I remember maybe one time a dealer did that. But they typically just cut us loose on our own. :)

I'm not used to getting a thanks for that, usually it's a "this car's speed sucks lol" etc etc. You're the best.

I think reviews would be a bad idea. For one, they'd have to be moderated to prevent cancerous OOC-type "don't buy X, buy Y for this, that, and the other reason" reviews from people who think they're still playing Online and not a RP server. For two, you would inevitably end up with vehicles that have zero reviews and will probably almost never get bought. There probably already is plenty of vehicles that rarely, if ever, get purchased. But why make it easier for us to know what they are? Does it add to or otherwise facilitate the RP? Does it solve a serious problem? No to both, IMO.

IRL, do you buy a car without testing it?

But!  I do agree with your OOC point. Why can't we have a In Character Section of the forums? I think there's a fair amount of people whom enjoy the RP portion to take it seriously when performing a review.

Sure, but at the risk of stating the obvious, this isn't IRL. This is GTA. We all know what the vehicles are, and if not, they're simple enough to look up in a wiki. The only difference is how the server modifies their performance characteristics. But I don't think it's terribly different enough to warrant a test drive feature. If the devs want to put it on the road map, fine, but I think something like this would be a very low priority.

The relative performance of each vehicle is pretty similar to the base game. The Akuma will always be faster than a Bagger, a Buffalo won't outspeed a 9F, and sedans will still be shit.
